Hey Viewers!
Welcome back to my blog.
Today is a SLJ post! It's been a while.
If you don't know already, the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) is a set of activities that you can complete over the summer holidays. Earn points by commenting and doing these activities and you might just earn some prizes!
Today's SLJ activity was about making a song on Song Maker. You can find the activity here on the SLJ blog.
I have lot's of experience with music, since I have been playing both the piano and trumpet for over 4 years each. I also love creating songs so this was a breeze for me.
My song is called Birdsong. The upper register is the bird singing, with it's chirps that come in at random positions. My middle area is where I have a constant rhythm of chords that go up and down tones throughout the piece. They show the movement and keep the song flowing. My lower register has a few specks of others sounds that may come out and any moment in the scene!
I have chosen a marimba and wood block, both percussion instruments that are light and portray the feeling of summer well.
At the end, I have added a nice chord to finish off.
Unfortunately, my first piece that I made was so long that I couldn't save it, so I made a shorter version that I was able to save properly.
Do you play instruments?
Would you want to learn an instrument?
I think that music is a universal language, do you agree?
Enjoy!
Kia ora Mia,
ReplyDeleteIt’s Shannon from the Summer Learning Journey.
Your summer song reminded me of Summer. Making music is a lot of fun, even when you are not very musical like me. I loved watching the music play down the screen and the colours you used also were very summery. I really enjoyed the range you demonstrated, and that you included a thorough explanation of what each bit represented. It was amazing to see and hear!
If you had to compose another piece of music, would you change anything? Have you thought of adding a screencastify of how you did this activity?
I liked your post so much that I showed my flatmate! He thought your post was exceptional and told me I should give you extra points! Keep up the great work.
Ka kite anō,
Shannon (SLJ)
Hi Shannon! Thanks so much for the comment. Hmmm, I like it the way it is, so I don't think I would change anything. Although, if it were a different setting or theme, like winter, I would change it dramatically. Maybe I could make some lessons on how to make some really cool music!
DeleteThanks so much!
Mia
Hi Mia,
DeleteThat would be super cool if you added some lessons!
What would your winter song sound like?
Bye for now,
Shannon (SLJ)
Hi Shannon, I guess I could try making some slides or something to make some tips for making music! I might do a post sometime during the holidays. My winter song would probably be slower, maybe minor (usually referred to as being sad sounding and major as happy), though I would love to end it on a major (Happy) to end as though spring is coming!
DeleteI'll see what I can do!
Mia
Hi Mia,
DeleteThat's super symbolic, I love it! A high note for the impeding spring season is a tremendous idea!
How's your summer holidays going? Are you excited to head back to school? What have you been up to?
Bye for now,
Shannon (SLJ)
