Coming Back To School by Mia

I'm so glad we have technology these days...

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Hopefully you're having some fun at home and enjoying the change.

Me and some of my friends sure have had to change our ways of doing things.

It's also a lot harder to try and figure out what to do when you have nothing to do. Especially because sometimes you are by yourself and there is no one to do stuff with.

Some of the work we have been set is some writing.
We have been asked to write a long write about 1 out of 4 prompts on a document.

I will be sharing with you one of them.

(As well as some work that me and some of my friends have been doing in out free time)

What have you been doing while you're at home?
What are some challenges?
What are some positives?

Enjoy!

Text is everywhere!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

This blog post today is going to be all about Text!
The stuff you're reading right now is text.

But, what is Text?

Think about that.

We came up with things like 'sentences' 'words' 'paragraphs' 'things that we send to each other' and so on.

What do you think text is?
Is it words?
Maybe it's sentences or messages?

Enjoy!

Do you have a habit of Sharpening The Saw?

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome to my blog.

Do you have a habit of Sharpening the saw?
Well, not literally...

Sharpening the saw is one of the habits from a book called '7 Habits of highly effective teens'

We looked at how to be a good leader and a good member of a group. The year sixes were at PAL (Physical Activity Leaders) Training and the year 7 and 8's were left with this gigantic classroom.

Overall, the day was really fun, I really liked the games and activities that we did. I really enjoyed learning about the 7 habits, especially the seventh, which was 'Sharpen the saw'. Although, I think I liked it best because our teacher (Ms Rennell) just gave us this really catchy song that's still going around in my head, which is called, you guessed it, Sharpen the saw.

What kind of leadership qualities have you been taught?
Are they different? Or the same?
What do you think makes a good leader?

SRL? Hmm... Super Rolling Logs...?

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back, or to, my blog.

Today I will be talking about SRL! which isn't Super Rolling Logs... or Scientific Rising Limbos... or Snakes Running Lazily...

Anyway!
What SRL actually means is 'Self Regulated Learning'

I am going to teach what it means, and what I have been doing for 'SRL'
Have you heard of it before? If so, have you used the term before? Or something similar?

Enjoy!

We got into the top 5 out like 100 entries!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about Digi Awards!

Our group, Me, Mika, Hana and Nikita got into the Finals in the Website category.

So we went to St Margarets Auditorium to see who got 1st and 2nd for the categories. This was really big because there were about 400 entries from all over Canterbury! They were also judged by a LOT of judges to see who would get what place.

It was really fun and exciting to see who got what place.
I think I also had a lot of fun contributing to drum rolls :)

Do you know what Digi Awards is?
Have you been a part of Digi Awards?

The rest will be explained in the slide.

Enjoy!

Digging deeper Holes

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about a book called Holes.

Holes, is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats,
Their family of Stanley's' seem to have bad luck. One day, Stanley gets sent to Camp Green Lake for stealing Clyde Livingston's shoes. Although, Stanley only remembers them flying out from the sky.
What will happen to Stanley?

I found this book really interesting, it was an amazing book with lot's of twists and turns and lots of different puzzles, but they all link to the past and present and the puzzle reveals itself.

This is my poster advertising the book.

Enjoy!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about Karyn Wilson!

Most of the information is in the slide.

Presenting in front of sharks :)

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about Shark TANK!
If you don't know what Shark tank is, it's pretty much a show where companies come to a panel of judges and show their products, then will ask them for some money in return for some percent of their company.

Our class had to make up a presentation; which was based on our pet inventions (you may have seen my Mousepack blog post about it).

Unfortunately my friend Mika left me and went to Japan so I had to edit the presentation and present it by myself.

Enjoy!

Trees are life, trees make us live, but without them we do not exist :D

Hey Bloggers!!

Welcome back!

Today I will be telling you about Trees,

Trees,
and...
Trees,

Yes, this blog post is all about trees!
As part of the Student Council me and Jedi (school council head) had to manage this activity all by ourselves because unfortunately the rest of the 3 were away :(

But I think that I, uh... we did a really good job at managing it!

(totally fine... Jedi looks kinda confused in that picture)

Firstly, we seperated the class into 2 groups and sent them out at different times to find a tree that they like or inspires them. Then they would write a three line poem or a Haiku about that tree and we wondered what kind of poems that they would come up with!

Enjoy!

*checking bike* "do you have handlebars that work?" *looks at unicycle* "no...?"

Hey bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog!!!

Today we will be talking about cycle safety on a bike.

*pulls out sheet of paper and unravels it, keeps falling and falling*

And... you can see that there is a bunch of rules, and since it's boring just showing you it
like this I thought that I could do slide!!!

I found cycle safety really interesting because I got to ride a bike on the actual road (which I have never done before by the way) and we got to experience real traffic.
I found it a little scary at first, since biking isn't really my thing and as a matter of fact I prefer unicycling!!
Now that I know and experienced riding on the road I am much more confident.

Well,
Enjoy the slide!!!

Easter Fun Day!!! U(-x-)U (the rainy version)

Hey there Bloggers!

I'm sorry this came out in the holidays, it was meant to come out earlier but I didn't have enough time!

This post is all about Easter Fun Day!

But sadly the weather decided to go against us and rain...

But we still had fun!
We made easter hats, egg jarping, we also did our 'eggcellent' egg techno challenge!!
(that wasn't me who made it up, that was the teachers)

About the egg challenge...

So, what happens is that we get a limited amount of materials to make sure your raw egg survives the trip down the zipline.
Now for those who are curious or want to try this out yourselves, the materials were.

4 straws
4 popsicle sticks
a little roll of tape
1 piece of cardboard
5 cotton balls
3 pieces of A4 paper
and finally 3 pipe cleaners

No more, no less
We would hook it up to the zipline with a paperclip and a ring.
Although, our zipline wasn't fast enough so all the eggs survived

We also has some exciting badges and presentations.

Here is a video of the day

Enjoy!!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog!!
Earlier today, I went to South Hornby primary to present Animaker as part of the student summit.

Student Summit is when people come and present and learn things from other schools.
Me and some of the kids were lucky to be chosen to present something.

We chose to do Animaker.

I you want to get a brief idea of Animaker here is the slide.

Enjoy!

An experiment using the class!!!

Hey Bloggers!

As you may know (or not) I am in the student council!

We got set up with our challenge!
Pulled up our sleeves!
Marched to the classroom!
And stood proudly!

Then we did..

A...

(waterfall noise and nature sounds)
A calm coloring in...

Look at all the calm kids.

A scratching of pencils and pens.

We were silent and no one was disturbing anyone.
No one was sitting next to someone that they would talk to, nor the same year level.

sh sh sh, sh sh sh.

It was different to what we usually do, it was so surprising that no one actually broke any of the rules we set up for them!
How amazing!

We did this because we wanted to see how everyone reacted to this, what everyone would think of this session. Richard (the person that comes in most weeks for our meetings) said that he tried this with another school and we thought it would be nice to also do it for our class.

I felt very calm doing this.
Everyone else seemed to feel the same.

The end result...

Something truly beautiful

We have just proved to the teacher,

that we can be quiet.

Delivering creations!

Hello bloggers!

On Tuesday this week some of us from the student council went to put some of our creations for our response to the attack.

We got to go to the botanical gardens to find a place to put them down.
It was amazing to see it with our own eyes, how many people are helping and supporting this.

We were quiet while walking through here.

It just makes me feel happy that we can all be part of this too.

Here are some pictures

Enjoy!

Can you turn your hand 360 degrees? YES!

Hey bloggers!

Rimu class had a visitor just a couple days ago!

It was really fun meeting him and his arm.
He is the only one to have this arm in Christchurch.
Are you getting the picture?

Most of the things are in the video so I'll say no more!

Enjoy!
