SLJ - OpTicAl iLLuSIonS

Hello Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about Optical Illusions. This is another SLJ post!

If you don't know already, the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) is some set activities to complete during the summer holidays. When you complete activities, you earn points that lead to some cool prizes that you can get. You can also earn points by commenting.

Optical illusions are really trippy! They make my eyes hurt looking at them for too long. It's also very challenging to create them yourself.

So for this activity I made an optical illusion, it's a pretty basic one that I learnt how to make in my math class a while ago. You can find the activity on the SLJ Blog.

How do optical illusions make you feel?
What do you think makes them so confusing?

Enjoy!

  2. Hello Mia, I'm Amelia from Yaldhurst Model School.

I liked the way you explained how it works and you presented it in a simple yet amazing way.

Optical illusions make me feel weird. When I figure out how they're done I try to look at it at another angle. I don't know what makes optical illusions so confusing though.

To improve maybe you could add a GIF at the end.

How do you think optical illusions trick our brain?

Cya later Mia, keep it up!

    1. Hi Amelia! It's nice to see you again, thanks for leaving a comment. Oooo! Yes, I know about optical illusion GIFs actually, usually they are spirals and they look just as confusing as still ones.

I think that our brain just gets really muddled. Our eye sends pictures to our brain that make us see things, but sometimes optical illusions can make that seem unclear. So when it sends the picture to our brain, it doesn't match what it looks like in reality. I think that's how it works!

      Thanks again for commenting.

  3. Kia Ora Mia my name is Kiana and I am a blog commenter for the Summer Learning Journey.

Wow, this is an outstanding blog post you have made because you have gone above and beyond by not only sharing your response to the activity but by also explaining what the activity is and how it works, you have also encouraged other bloggers to participate in the SLJ which is very thoughtful of you to do so. I am impressed.

In response to your question, “How do optical illusions make me feel?” Well, this optical illusion makes me feel unbalanced and wobbly, it looks as if every odd and even square are moving in opposite directions.

I have a question. Did it take you long to create this? Also, how did you create this?

I look forward to hearing back from you in the comment section below.

    1. Konichiwa Kiana, thanks for commenting on my blog! This optical illusion was pretty simple to make and I already had some previous experience so it didn't take too long. To create my optical illusion, I made strips of black and white squares. Then, I shifted some of the rows to the left or right; not too much that the black and white aren't connecting, but enough to seem unbalanced. After, I framed it so that way the ends are covered.

I hope to see you again!
