Hooked On Books Week

This week was Hooked on Books week and we got a book every single day, as well as having book character day on Thursday.

I think my favorite book would be Laugh your head off 4 ever, even though I didn't get to hear the teachers read it but some of my friends told me about it.

These are all the books that we got in our class.

Persuasion Writing

Hello bloggers!
This week is book week so we have been getting a new book every single day.

Today we got the book Goldfish boy and we had to do a persuasive speech/writing about do you agree that parents need to get fined if they take their kids of school for a day?
I disagreed and this is why

Do you agree or disagree?

Could you feedback on my writing and how I could improve it?

This is my Persuasion speech
Enjoy!

Hi I am Mia and I think that parents shouldn’t get fined for taking their kids off school. I have three points to argue with. One, that they shouldn’t get fined that much money for it. Two, Why kids should be able take days off school. Three, about the education it could provide.

Parents shouldn’t need to get fined that amount of money. £60, $120 in NZ money is a huge amount of money! It’s only a day and why does it need to be so much money? It could be even worse like court or even larger amounts of money. According to BBC on average there is 12 penalties per 1,000 children.

Some kids in school have technical difficulties whether it is being bullied or feeling like they are behind everyone else, and sometimes taking a break can help with the stress and pain to calm the child down. Even after consulting a teacher or principle the child may have to suffer going through the steps. Having less stress can help with the child's education when they are calm and happy. Some kids at school and develop to have anxiety or depression when in an older age and can suffer from it. That’s why I think that having a break affects children's education.

Even taking one or two days off school can make a big difference, and when they come back from their trip or holiday they might’ve changed hugely in their education, they may be more calm about school and they may be more fresh and better focus could be developed.

Education. Different kids have different ways of seeing learning and other things. So taking a break of school can make a big difference in their learning. Education is everywhere, whether it is outside of school or other countries. For example taking a trip to another country a kid could learn all about it, it’s culture, traditions and much more things than learning at school. Taking a trip could put a child out of it’s comfort zone and face challenges that you could never do in school. Being outside of their comfort zone can release the child's passions and strengths, and to teachers, that kind of information can help with what they could work on next.

Some teachers say that going to Florida is much more educational then being at school for a sports lesson. They also say that less children in a classroom get more one on one conferences with the students, but that’s another story. Although they say that it doesn’t do any harm so it should be allowed. One teacher said that a child went on a trip for a little while for a ski trip and he finished all his work while he was there. When he returned he was happy and the teacher was happy too.

In conclusion I think that they should be allowed to take their kids of school without any fines. It’s a big learning pit for your children and they get the opportunities that you didn’t. So they should be allowed.

Thank you

Taking flight

Hello Bloggers!
These past few weeks in Rimu we have been working on recounts.
This is one of the First recounts that I did so it isn't as good.
From this recount I have learnt:

You can use descriptive language in your recount to make it more interesting as long you don't turn it into a story.

What I found challenging:

Add in emotive words and adding descriptive language.

What's my next step:

To keep using recounts and adding descriptive language, and making sure I have emotive words.

Here is the recount I wrote:
