Summer learning journey! Week 3 day 1 - The hot hot summer! P.s I have a video ;)

Hey Bloggers!
Hope you have had a wonderful holiday so far, and you know what? Christchurch is really getting a temperature, yesterday got about up to 30 degrees! (that is quiet hot for us)

Hmm, what is the best time to come and travel here?
I don't know, maybe spring would be nice!

The summer learning journey site says...

On your blog, tell us what time of year you think is best for tourists for come and visit. Be sure to share at least three things that tourists could do while they were here in NZ.

South Island

Well to answer your question there I think that about in the middle/early September to october were the cherry blossoms (down south) are in full bloom, Christchurch normally has it's blossoms in September, while places like Ashburton and down south more are more into October. You can come around in Christchurch at Hagley Park which is located near the city center. Ashburton Domain and gardens are also good places to go too.

There are also different activities like skiing and snowboarding. If you go a bit earlier the ski fields still may be open in early September.

North Island

In the north island (the same period of year, Spring) it can get quiet warm and it is a great time to spend it outdoors, you can go to different scenery, and Auckland will make it a great place to walk around near the sky tower. You can also spend your time at also One tree hill, that also has a park you can visit.

So that was my ideas, sorry but I didn't know much about the north island since I don't live there but I had some rough idea.

Ok let's move onto...

You are my sunshine!

On your blog, list five different things that we can do to protect ourselves from the sun this summer!

Here is a video that I made about being sunsmart.

Enjoy!

  1. Hi Mia,

Another wonderful video, these are just the coolest! I have had to share them with the other SLJ team as I think they are just so cool!

You have put some great points in your videos about being sunsmart, the sun here in New Zealand can be really harsh. Do you know why the sun can be really strong here in New Zealand at times?

I absolutely love going to the Botanical Gardens in spring especially to see the blossoms in full bloom as well as the daffodils, I think they are beautiful.

Until next time, happy blogging :)

    1. Hi Emma!
Thank you so much for the comment! you are just too kind. I think that New Zealand (as I remember) something about the ozone layer and the angle it is.

  2. HI Mia,

I really, really, really love your bite-able on being sun smart! It's really cute, quick and eye catching. Your so good at putting these video's together, how long did it take to make it? And does it take long to edit and update the post? Just because right at the end of the video I noticed the you forgot the letter 'H' in Where.
This was in the ending line, saying 'were ever you are'. But you know I don't think anyone will notice.

Oh and by the way, did you make that picture at the back? The one with the little thing wearing the hat, the line was Always wear a hat when you go outside.

    1. Nice to see you again Jedi!
It actually doesn't take that long to make as you just click, type, pick the font, color, and audio, then finally preview it.
Yes, I did make the picture on the line, because I couldn't find one that suit the line! as a matter of fact I think that person took longer than the video it self.

      Thank Jedi!

  3. Kia ora Mia,

My name is Georgia, and like Emma, I am a Cluster Manager for the Summer Learning Journey. I comment on blogs from Kaikohekohe (Northland) mainly, however Emma just shared your video with me and I was so impressed I simply had to comment! Your sun-smart video was very creative and like Jedi said above, eye catching. So well done.

My favourite tip is to check the label of sunglasses. I used to work in a pharmacy and we often had customers come in and ask if all of our sunglasses were protective against UV rays. It's a very important thing to check!

What is your favourite thing to do in the summertime? I love going to the beach and boogy boarding with my friends and whanau. It's always best when the waves are big but they aren't too strong that they would dump you under.

    Keep up the great work!
    Nga mihi, Georgia.
