SLJ - Discovering Aotearoa

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Yay! It's my first Summer Learning Journey post!

Today I have done one called 'Discovering Aotearoa'

It says to...

For this activity we would like you to think about your own experiences and your own cultural background. Where does your family come from? Do they come from Europe like Abel Tasman, Polynesia like Kupe, or somewhere else?
On your blog, please tell us about your cultural background. Where do you and your family come from?
Where do you come from?
Are you from more than one country?
Enjoy!

  1. Hello Mia, it's me Parwin! I see you are also doing the SLJ, the challenge is on!

I really liked your google drawing as it is very creative and I like how you have also included a lot of information in your google drawing and in the blog post itself!

This reminds me of kind of like my family and I just had a deep thought about where my ancestors were from and I'm guessing they might be from Afghanistan because my parents and grandparents are all from Afghanistan.

I think that you did an amazing job as usual, and I am just speechless with your drawing because it looks so cool! I can't think of anything that would make your blog post better because it is already awesome but if you have anything in mind that would make your blog post better, then go for it!

    Awesome work!

Looking forward to your next posts,
    Parwin

    1. Hi Parwin! Its Mia here. First of all, Thank you for commenting on my blog! Hmm, yes, your family probably would've been from Afghanistan, but maybe your family originated from somewhere else! You never know! Have you asked your parents?

      Thank you!
      Mia

  2. Hi Mia!
Wow this is such an amazing post, I really enjoyed reading it.
You have done a great job of making something that is very attractive and have used some really nice visuals to present your work. It is very creative and you have done an excellent job.

My family is from Malaysia as well as New Zealand. Asian culture is so beautiful and it's amazing to learn about other cultures that are not your own. Do you speak Japanese at home? I wish I could speak Malay, but my dad does not know it so I never learnt it.

You have made the poster look so pretty, but next time I think you need to think about which colours look the best together. Although I can understand that the yellow is probably used to represent the stars on the Chinese flag, it is a bit harder to read the yellow words. Maybe you could use a darker colour next time that works with the light blue.

You have done a superb job and I can't wait to see your the next posts on your blog, you might see more comments from me in the future! I hope to see a reply or two from you.
    Keep up the amazing work!
    Until next time

    2. Hello again Mia!
Yes, I would love to have a bloggersation with you! I am going to be commenting on your future blog posts very soon so keep an eye on your posts. Remember, if you reply to comments, you get more points, very exciting!

Wow, its amazing that you can speak Japanese. At my school, we learn Japanese in year 8 and 9, and you can continue to do it during your high school years which is very cool and you can even go on a trip to Japan with the school. That is so cool that you are doing the learning journey in Japan, you seem to be very committed and that is super awesome. The internet is an amazing place with no limits, its really cool how we can do all of these incredible things that people in the past could only imagine!

I love to comment and blog at school and at home! When I was offered the opportunity to comment on students blogs I was very glad to do it! As a year 10 going on year 11 student, I know how important it is to have motivation. I did the Summer Learning Journey when I was in year 8 but I never did it properly, so I hope I am motivating students to keep up their amazing work!

I am very glad to read your posts and I will be commenting more very very soon, I hope we can continue this chain of comments to get you more points!
Keep on doing what you are doing! It is amazing
      Amazing job

    4. Hi Mia!
Gosh, that's amazing that you got awards for your bloggersations! I think it really engages students and their learning.
I'm glad I'm motivating you with your journey. I love the fact that it gives students something to do during the holidays that is nourishing for their brains instead of just sitting around watching youtube all day. Will you be doing the other learning journeys as well this new year? I might just come and comment!

      You are so welcome!
      Until next comment,
      - Nadia :)

    5. Hi Nadia! It's me again!

Yes, I will be doing the other learning journeys. Hopefully i'm not too busy with other things like concerts. That would be very nice of you to comment! but I do know that holidays can sometimes be even more busier than the school terms! Do you think that the Summer Learning Journey is a big thing for schools?

      Toodles!

    6. Yay! That's awesome, I'll be sure to comment on your future posts!
I do think that the summer learning journey is a massive help to students who have nothing to do during the holidays, it gives them something to do and a way to help their learning. When did you start doing the learning journeys? I only did the summer learning journey once. I'm too old to do it again but I'm more than happy to comment on students blogs.
      Until next time

  3. Hi there Mia, Its Abby from Yaldhurst. WOW! What a cool picture that you made. I like that you seemed to of spent lots of time making it and thinking about what goes into it.

This activity reminds me of a book that I have read about people from China coming down to have a new life.

Next time you could like I said in your other blog post, explain to some people that might not know what the SLJ is.

Whats your favourite part about being part Japanese?

Again, I like what you did to show off your hard work.

    Kind regards,
    Abby.

    1. Hi Abby! It's Mia here coming to reply. I wanted to give you are big, big thanks for commenting on my blog and saying such kind words to me. My favorite part of being Japanese is that I can show two countries coming together kind-of like peace, I also am able to come freely between Japan and NZ because I have a japanese passport.

Are any of your family from different countries?
      Thanks again!
      Mia
