Activity 2: What’s in a Name?

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

I'm sorry you had to wait so long for the next post to come but here it is!
Another Summer Learning Journey post!

If you already know what the Summer Learning Journey is, you may skip the next paragraph.

Pretty much, the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) is this thing that happens through the summer holidays, there are a set of activities that you can do in any order and as many as you want that give you points. Comments and replies are 2 points if it's up to standard. The aim is to get as many points as possible and try to get your hands on some prizes! The Summer Learning Journey also helps to prevent your learning skills going down.

Okay! The SLJ site says to...

For this activity, imagine that you were allowed to change your name to anything that you wanted.
On your blog, tell us what you would change your name to and why you would choose that name.
This is the name that I chose.
Thanks to Amelia who gave me inspiration on this post, go check her blog out here.
What name would you choose? Do you think there is a rule to names?
Enjoy!

Activity 1: Rugby Superstars

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

This is another Summer Learning Journey post, basically, the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) is a thing that happens through the Summer holidays, and helps to make sure your learning standards stay where they are instead of going down and then coming back to school in the same place you started!

Anyways, the Summer Learning Journey site says to...

For this activity, let’s imagine that you could be a superhero for a day. What three superpowers would you most like to have?
On your blog, please list the three superpowers, tell us why you have chosen each one, and tell us what you are going to do with them.
If you had any of the powers that I have chosen, what would you do with it?
Enjoy!

Where did we go?

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about...

Going to Mega Air!

The year 6-8 suddenly disappeared and reappeared in mufti clothes heading to do some jumping.

It was a truly awesome time. Forcing the teachers to do something they really didn't want to do.
Jumping around on the trampolines and playing dodgeball.

Have you been to Mega Air before?
If Yes, was it fun? If not, would you like to go?

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Today I have done an activity from the Summer Learning Journey..
It's only one of the teaser activities to get the learning journey going so there won't be any points counted.

I have picked one called 'The Rainman Of Rajasthan' as you can see by the title.

I watched a short video about The Water Project here.

Hey! I don't have 5 YEARS TO WRITE A BOOK!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about a story that I, Mia wrote.

I had to imagine myself as an author, soooo... I wrote a book!

Well, it's not really a book, it's more like a short story.

I now know that to be an author you need -

- Hard work!
- Dedication
- Open mind
- Creative ideas
AND...
LOTS AND LOTS OF TIME!

Because I read a book called Dragon Daughter, it was an AMAZING BOOK but it took the author 5 years to write sooo...

It's not like I had 5 years of time to finish it :)

Do you like my story?
WHat improvements could I make?

Enjoy!

Woof! Qack! Baa! Moo! What could this mean?

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be talking to you about last week Friday which was Pet Day!

It happens every once a year and it is the time to bring your favorite soft toy, rock or pet animal to school and show them off!

Overall it was a really fun day with my favorite part being when I created my sand saucer.

Enjoy!

My Favorite....

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about my favorite TV show/Movie and why I love it.

I picked my favorite movie called Kiki's delivery service, it is a Japanese movie by Ghibli. I chose a movie because I don't watch many series or TV shows.

What is your favorite TV show/movie?

Enjoy!

We got into the top 5 out like 100 entries!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about Digi Awards!

Our group, Me, Mika, Hana and Nikita got into the Finals in the Website category.

So we went to St Margarets Auditorium to see who got 1st and 2nd for the categories. This was really big because there were about 400 entries from all over Canterbury! They were also judged by a LOT of judges to see who would get what place.

It was really fun and exciting to see who got what place.
I think I also had a lot of fun contributing to drum rolls :)

Do you know what Digi Awards is?
Have you been a part of Digi Awards?

The rest will be explained in the slide.

Enjoy!

The Big Bang! (Not the theory)

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about a concert called Big Bang!

Not the theory, just saying. The concert.

It was by the CSO (Christchurch Symphony Orchestra) and it was in the wonderfull Christchurch Town Hall (which is huge just saying).

I had a lot of fun myself, playing the trumpet and piano, and I thought that the song choices were really good for the ages that were at the concert.

Do you like concerts?
Do you play an instrument?

Everything else is explained in the slide!
Enjoy!

Switching white to green!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about a new school uniform design!

Although,
I couldn't get many ideas so I kind-of based on the sports uniform we have.

But it's different!

I chose a green polo shirt because it's really hard to clean and it gets dirty really easily.
I chose a shade of dark green shorts and long pants for winter to match the top.

I also made some jackets which are long sleeve. The first one which is on the top right is for summer due to the fabric it's made out of. The second one is made out a polar fleece fabric for winter when it gets cold.

I would like to say a big thank you to Mika, who inspired me on this, she is also a great artist. Check out her blog Here.

What else could I have added?

Enjoy!

Zoooooooooooooom In Closer!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back, or to, my blog!

Today I will be talking about Puzzles!

For this activity I had to make a 'Number Word Search'

Although, at first I didn't quite get what that meant.

But, if I'm right.

It's just a word search for the numbers, as words, like twelve.

It took me AGES to fill in all the other gaps with letters.

Can you find my words?
If not, which words couldn't you find?

(The answers are at the bottom)

Enjoy!

I Want To Live HERE

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about My Dream House.

It's probably not exactly what some people want but,

It's what I want so...

Yup,
That's what I want as my dream house.

I tried to stick with a theme of browns and greys and whites.

Which I thought turned out really well.

Enjoy!

Thinking like a computer... (beep, beep, bop, beep)

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about Computational Thinking!

Uhhh,
OK,

You probably don't what that means.

Pretty much, it's basically thinking like a computer.

I'll explain more in the slide.

Enjoy!

Will click this blog for me? Please!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about Maths!

Great, wonderful Maths!

Well, for me,
Maybe not for you.

Today I will be teaching you how to convert,
Percentages,
Decimals,
And Fractions!

I found it pretty hard to convert fractions at first but I got the hang of it after a while.
I think the challenging thing about fractions was that the denominators can be different numbers so that means that I would have to change both the denominator and numerator.

Does this help you?
Do you understand it?

Enjoy!

It's Easely! It's Easy-Peasy-Lemon-Squeezy!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be talking about a new site called Easelly.

It's a quick and easy site to make some presentations on.
Well, they kind-of look like infographics...

What do you think about the new site?
Is there some more sites that I can explore?

Here is what I thought about it!

Using Easelly,

To explain easelly,

Salt, Salt, Deep Salt?

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about a book called 'Salt'

It's by Maurice Gee and I'm really enjoying it so far. I wouldn't say that this would be one of my choices of books, because usually I like to stick with fantasy and magic but this one steps a little bit out of my zone.

It's basically about this boy called Hari, who is able to talk to people through their minds and do the same with animals.
There's also this girl called Pearl, I don't know much about her and I don't want to spoil it if you want to read it.

These are some slides from my Novel Study on chapter 1.

Would you want to read this book?
Does it interest you?

Enjoy!

We're too young to be speed dating!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today we did some speed dating.

Don't get this mistaken, it was with books.

It was so that we could choose a book for our Novel Study this term.

The teachers took this a very different way.

Overall though, I thought this was a cool and fun way to pick a book.
I had a lot of fun walking around and choosing a book and I'm sure others did too.

Everything will be explained in the slide!

Enjoy!

 Oye (Hey) Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about comida mexicana.

Or Mexican food.

The same words I used in the title, now you know what it means!

This activity for the Spring Learning Journey says to...

Pick a country and research the food they eat, create a presentation to share that information!

That's what I have done right here.

Which food do you like the look of?
Would you like to try it?

Enjoy!

SLJ - Why 100 Pizzas???

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to yet another Spring Learning Journey post!

Today's activity was to make 3 math questions that add up to 100 pizzas!
It could be anything to do with maths like addition, subtraction and other different ways that your answer could be 100 pizzas!

The hardest equation to make was the one that had something to do with time.

Can you figure out the answer?
Are they correct?

Let's find out!

SLJ - A B C D E F G, Order foods from A-Z!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to Spring Learning Journey!

This activity is pretty simple,
but hard at the same time.

You have to find food that begin with the letters of the alphabet.

Except, well,

You may notice that even by yourself, you can't seem to find one that begins with X or V.

Those two I have missed because I couldn't think of anything!

Just a heads up, I did NOT use google to find the food names.
All of them are from up in my mind :)

Enjoy!

SLJ - Eating bugs, Bad or Good?

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Another activity on the Spring Learning Journey.

It says to...
REad this article about edible insects. It says that it is more sustainable. Find out more and then share what you think about this. Are for or against this idea?

Well...

Personally Yes!

I means, bugs are incredibly high on protein and other great things that help you and your body.

Do you think that eating bugs is good?

Here is some of my research.

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to the Spring Learning Journey.

Today I have done activity that says to...

Create four maths problems using food.
They can be multiplication, addition, subtraction and division.

Great!
I love Maths.

I don't really have much to say on this activity so switch your brains on!

SLJ - Cake vs Ice-cream! who will get thrown out!?

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Yippee! It's the Spring Learning Journey!

If you do not know what it is, it's pretty much when you have some activities that you have to blog about over the holidays that score you some points. If you comment on someone's Learning journey blog you get 2 points for each quality comment!

I am very sorry for the late blog, I have been really busy over the few days.
To kickstart my Spring Learning Journey I have chosen this activity.

Would you rather never eat cake again?
Or
never eat ice-cream again?

Hmmm, hard question here...

To answer this I have made an amazing Prezi!
Thank you to Mika who uses this program a lot!

What would you choose?
And why?

Digging deeper Holes

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about a book called Holes.

Holes, is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats,
Their family of Stanley's' seem to have bad luck. One day, Stanley gets sent to Camp Green Lake for stealing Clyde Livingston's shoes. Although, Stanley only remembers them flying out from the sky.
What will happen to Stanley?

I found this book really interesting, it was an amazing book with lot's of twists and turns and lots of different puzzles, but they all link to the past and present and the puzzle reveals itself.

This is my poster advertising the book.

Enjoy!

The City At Night...

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

For the past few days we have been working on poetry.

Today I will be talking about my poem that I have written.

This is a free poem so that means that it doesn't need to have rhythm, or rhyming words but I added some in anyways. A free poem can be pretty much anything you want and in whatever order and like its name, you can write freely.

Please give me some feedback on
Does it paint a picture?
Does it have good description?

Enjoy!

The lesson that turned into a discussion

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about me teaching my dad some maths that I learnt.
I taught my dad divisibility rules (checks).

We had to record the lesson, well, which was like 12 minutes LONG!
That's because half of the time it's a discussion about maths than a lesson but it's okay!

1. I didn't rehearse it
2. I'm just talking freely.
3. This was a practice but I used it for the real thing anyways.

You don't have to watch all of it if you don't want to :)

Enjoy!

It All Happens On The Inside

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about if a movie was set in my life.

First off, I need to name my movie.

I think that I would name it,
Life In My House... Wait, that's kind of boring.

Maybe like...

 I know!

It All Happens On The Inside

I think that I wanted to call it that because I wanted something like, different, something that's better than 'Life In My House' anyways. But I also thought that I wanted something that would interest people so that's why I called it 'It All Happens On The Inside'

Here is is my poster!

Do you like it?

Is it good?

I chose people to voice act because, well, they are the people! They are my family :)
Let's just say we are actors and actresses :D

Sending an invitation to the dead

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about which 3 celebrities/famous people would you invite.

I decided to invite some famous people.

Some whom are not alive :)

I would like to invite.

Allen Vizzutti (Famous Trumpeter)
William Gillock (Composer)
Mozart (Composer, although I'm not sure whether I will be able to talk to him...)

Then, I had to write an invitation to each of them.

Enjoy!

(Mozart's one is in German translation is below it)

Falling off a tyre swing, How's that important exactly?

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be showing you our response to
Boy In The Striped Pajamas.

Me, Grace and Nikita did a drawing of the main part of the chapter, chapter 7.

We thought that this was an important part of the story because after this incident on the tyre swing he learnt something about Pavel, the waiter, and a different point of view of Mother.

Please give me some feedback on,
- Whether you think that it represents the incident of the tire swing.
- Also if you get the story behind the picture.

Enjoy!

Guess who visited us...

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about Karyn Wilson!

Most of the information is in the slide.

I loved most about Karyn Wilson is that she talked about her childhood and based some of her books on the place were she used to spend her holidays back in her childhood.

Enjoy!

Rounding out the decimals

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be talking to about rounding numbers!
Decimals to be exact.

This is a DLO consisting of pretty much 2 instructions :)

Remember them both and then you will be a master at rounding.

I found most tricky about decimal numbers is when you had to round from the decimal number to whole numbers, which are a little confusing, but the same anyways.

Did this help you to round decimals?
If no, then how could I improve?

This book seemed to keep my nose permanently stuck inside

Hey Bloggers!
Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be showing you a book report on

Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire.

I'm sure a lot of you out there have read the book already, but I hadn't, so I decided to give the series a go.
I'm also watching the movies after I read the book.
But that's not important!

Have you read the book?
If yes, did you like it?
If no, then would you like to read it?

Once upon a time...

Once upon a time, there was a young girl called Mia who decided to write a blog post :)

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Just this week we have started our work on Traditional Tales.

Today I will be talking to you about Traditional Tales and what goes into one and what you might find.

Enjoy!

Guess my magic number!

Hey Bloggers!

GUESS WHAT!

There's a magic number that I'm thinking about.

BUT!

I can't tell you ;)

I guess you'll just have to figure out this question

80 +1.1 - 100.1 + 8 - 9 x 3 + 40 + 67 +20 - 9 + 1 =

Figured out what it is?
What's my magic number today?

If you figured it out, please comment down below what you thought up!

Well,

Here's the answer!

Maria the Maid has a very different background story...

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be sharing with you my response to Boy In The Striped Pajamas.

This is on the chapters 5 & 6.

If you don't know, the story is about a boy called Bruno. Their family decides to move to a new house out in a deserted place where it seems as though it's only this single house out there. It's called the Out-With. Everyone seems to be settling in nicely, except Bruno, he's frustrated and angry that he moved, he doesn't like this place.

I thought that this was a very important part of the story, chapter 6, especially because it talked about Maria (The Maid) and her side of the story and what Bruno's father did to help her give her shelter, food, water and clothes.

For my response, I decided to do some kind of drawing about what I have learnt more about the characters in the story after reading the 2 chapters.

Is it interesting?
Is there anything I can improve on in terms of information?

Enjoy!

The time traveling MAGIC!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be talking to you about...

Where I would go if I could take a trip in Dr Who's Tardis.

For those who don't know, Tardis is the name of a time machine that can travel into the future and the past.

Where would you go?

Enjoy!

Maths is hard... untill you find out about rules!

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog!

Today I will be teaching you about divisibility rules up to 10.

These are rules in maths for dividing numbers by certain numbers, each number up to ten has a particular rule to find out whether the entire number can be divisible by that number.

At first I found it a little bit challenging but once you understand how it works,
it will be really easy to do.

Does this help with your division?

Enjoy!

I didn't know that the Sydney Opera House was this small...

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog!

For the past few days we have been doing some projects on Math Week.
Some of these activities included making structures,
building a playground,
building a bridge,

and making the Sydney Opera House!

No, just joking!
Making the Sydney Opera House wasn't part of the project,

Although we kind-of did...

Anyways,

Me and my friend Mika, did a math structure that didn't move, there was another separate activity if you wanted to make a dynamic (moving) structure, we just stuck to the still one.

What do you think of our city?
do you think it's creative?
have you done something similar?

Well then,
Most of the information is in the drawing!

Soooooo!
ENJOY!

(If it's hard to read the text, it's written down below the drawing)

How did we make it?

We decided that it would be pretty cool
if we made some springs and folded
up pieces of paper, stick it in an
interesting way, and look at it like
buildings. We also made Cubes and
other 3D shapes to use as like decorations
or buildings. After, we scribbled (that was
mostly me) on some color with pens
and look what we made!

Being a photographer! at least trying...

We took quite a few
photos, Mika was pretending
to be one of those professional
photographers, taking photos
from all angles.
The most challenging thing doing
this was making the 3D shapes,

What is it? it's the Sydney Opera House!

In the process
of making our city
we tried to go for an
abstract style, going
for a unique shaped
building. It ended
up kind-of looking
like the Sydney Opera
House! :)
they took a LOOOONG time to
make. I think I had lot's of fun
doing this project
and I am sure that MIka did too.

A picture paints a... what was it?.... how many words?

Hey Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog!

Okay, I remember now,

A Picture Paints A Thousand Words

This is the picture which I am meant to make something about.

What can you see?

Hmm, a tree, as a person, a bush, rainbows and skies.

I have created an animation based on this and I want to see whether you get the picture.
I hope this paints a picture!

Enjoy!

Peer inside, see the outside, the inside is the outside

Hi Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking to you about The Boy In The Striped Pajamas.

I will be talking about what Bruno and Gretel saw through the window and my response to that in the chapters 3 & 4.

This was an important part of the story because it was different and unexpected, also since they just moved, they wouldn't have any knowledge about it. This is what sparks of something interesting in Bruno's life.

I decided to create a picture, but not on google drawings, but on canva.

Enjoy!

The Overpaid Maid, where have I heard that before?

Hey There Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog and today I will be talking to you about a book called
The Boy In Striped Pajamas.

Our group has been reading the story and making some responses and DLO's about the story
as part of Novel Study.

This is a story about a boy called Bruno that has to suddenly move to a new house.
When he finds something through his window all he can do is find out more about it.

This is Abby and I's response to it about Maria the Maid, a character in the story.

Enjoy!
