SLJ - Insect Art - Meet the Yama bug!

Hello Bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog.

Today I will be talking about the Yama bug!
This is part of the SLJ.

Don't know what the SLJ is? Basically, the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ for short) is a range of activities you can complete over the summer holidays, not only is it fun, but it helps your learning stay or even improve over the holidays. BUT! As a bonus, you can even get some prizes if you do enough posts and comments.

This activity was set a few days ago, and I really wanted to do it, but I didn't have time that day. So instead I did it today!

It says to create a bug or summer scene out of twigs, leaves, petals etc... I decided to make mine a bug! I made my bug out of a leaf and twigs. You can find the activity on the SLJ blog.

Do you like bugs?
What sort of bugs?

Enjoy!

  1. Kia Ora Mia,

Another outstanding blog post! It looks incredible! I like how not only have you recreated the yama bug using materials from nature, but you have included a couple of extra slides detailing facts about it! Ka pai, you’re awesome!

Your bug is gorgeous. I like how you’ve put a lot of attention into the shape of the legs and especially the feet! It looks like it camouflages into its environment quite nicely!

I’m not the greatest fan of bugs, but I try to be brave. They’re super important for the ecosystem! I like bees and butterflies the best. What are your favourite insects?

Keep up the incredible work and happy blogging!

    Ka kite anō,
    Shannon (SLJ)

    1. Hi Shannon! Nice to see you again on my blog. Thanks so much for the comment! My favorite would have to be butterflies and the same as you, I've never really been a fan of bugs too much. Although, when I was younger, I used to like the praying mantises that used to roam around the house. We also have some bees flying around our sage plants!

      Thanks for commenting!

  2. Kia Ora Mia, my name is Kiana and I am a blog commenter for the Summer Learning Journey.

Miharo! Amazing! Thank you for sharing your Yama bug with us on your blog, you have done a great job at presenting it by using a slide aswell and introducing the activity in your post. Although you didnt have time on the day this activity was posted you managed to make time today which is awesome. If i hadnt of known this was made with a leaf and twigs i would have believed it to be a real life moving bug, you have done a great job at making this look real. Did it take you long to find the materials and put it together?

Keep up the good work. I look forward to hearing back from you in the comment section below and seeing more posts on your blog.

    Ngā mihi

    1. Hi Kiana, thanks for taking time to leave a comment! Yes, I worked hard on making this look real, so real that I even fooled my parents when they saw it on the table! :)

It didn't take me too long to find materiels, since I had my eye on the leaves already before I started to do the activity. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do, so I went with my idea and created it!

      Thanks again!
      Mia
